Dare, Don't Compare

I was intrigued by a passage in the Bible that I read this week that talked about comparison. We think sometimes that what we are going through in life is all new but you know what if they worried about comparison thousands of years ago perhaps life just gets repeated through the generations. So, what does that mean exactly?

Comparison keeps us playing small, comparing tells us that we aren’t good enough or funny enough or…the list goes on. But here is the truth. Each one of us was designed for something different. My path is not ever going to be your path. There may be similarities and that is ok but each one of us given the exact same tasks and end goal will likely arrive and go along the path slightly different. Here is the truth. If you have those nudges in your head that

If you have thought about starting a business and those voices of doubt are screaming that it isn’t the right time? Ignore them and think about all the ways you can move forward.

If you have thought about writing a note or calling that special someone you have wanted to talk to for a long time but you just can’t face rejection if they don’t return your call/email/letter. Do it anyway, all you can control is yourself and putting yourself out there can be super scary but so rewarding.

Have you thought about writing a book but it seems so daunting or you wonder who will read it – that’s ok write it anyway.

Action and not comparing is key to breakthrough. So what if you get out there and make mistakes? That’s ok, fail forward. You learn as you move and grow along the way.

Dare to be uniquely you and your audience, or that friend, or that loved one, will follow. When that voice of doubt or not good enough creeps up yell back (maybe not in a room full of people). And remember that the person you are comparing yourself to has the same doubts and struggles you just don’t see them because you are looking at the pretty package on social media or on TV without seeing what goes into the backend to get there.
