Are your Habits Friends or Enemies?

I was reminded this week that habits are not always bad things. We are so programmed to think of habits in that way though right? When we think of a habit we often go to things like biting nails, smoking, watching too much TV…but what if habits can illicit a good response such as habits like taking care of ourselves, taking time in the morning to pray/meditate/inspire ourselves for the day ahead.
Often life is about perception, yes but here is the truth. A habit that is holding you back must go and habits that lead to success must stay. I’ve Decided Founder, Kim Martin, shared in a talk this week that there are (5) habits that hold us back.
1. Health – this could be any kind of health. You may have the eating thing down but aren’t getting the right exercise. Or you could have the physical stuff all together but your spiritual health is awful. Take stock – what areas of your health need a tune-up potentially where could this habit be cleaned up and strengthened?
2. Addictions – woah this runs the gambit. Many go to drugs and alcohol but especially now it can mean so much more. Are you addicted to that rectangle computer in your hand? That’s right your phone is one of the number one addiction problems we face in our society today. How much time do you spend on your device – if you don’t know look at your IOS screen time report each week – you may not like what you see!

3. Blaming – there is no reason ever to blame. But it is so easy to do this. It is a knee jerk, trigger response when we are confronted about something that has gone on. We so quickly start talking about how “it must have been” or “So and so did..” So many blessings have been taken away from people over the years just because they chose to play the blame game.
4. Intentions – Kim shared this quote and how true it is “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Intention is also the killer of dreams. It is great to have intention but do you have action? Have you put the stake in the ground and decided 100% to move forward?
5. Troubles – we roll around those troubles in our heads sometimes to the point where we give ourselves a physical headache. We reason to figure out what, why and how traumas/difficulties affected our path or how past mistakes are still taking their toll. What if we just understand that the past is just that …the past and things may have been put in our path to teach us, grow us and prune us. What would happen if we were just thankful for our troubles and look for the lessons in each one?
There is good news though. You don’t have to stay mired in the gunk of bad habits. But I will say one of the things I have learned over the years, sometimes dealing with or even deciding to change bad habits to good consciously is just not enough. Why is that? Well we have this captain in our lives, very powerful computer that has its own plan – that is our unconscious mind. If we don’t get that part of our brain working with our conscious part of our brain – we may still find ourselves in the same position 1 year from now despite all of the best efforts.
Ridding ourselves of all of the emotional baggage lodged in our unconscious mind while we work the plan of retraining bad habits in exchange for good ones is a super powerful combination! If you are ready to kick the bad habits and want to give it the one-two punch message me @ julie@jewelteam.com or https://www.facebook.com/juliedrake70 and let’s work together to release those blocks that are preventing you from moving forward!
