Stay The Course...It Is Worth It In the End

I distinctly remember reading a book years ago called Three Feet from Gold. The premise was that we often don’t realize how close we really are to the finish line and some quit when they are literally three feet from achieving what they have worked so hard to get.
How about you? Are you one that is fast out of the gate but then fizzles out when you don’t see enough progress? Or maybe you do have some sticking power but after a while you just can’t take it anymore and you quit. Many of us know of some very famous people who probably could have quit. Dr. Seuss who was rejected over and over for his short stories. Stephen King who through his first manuscript in the garbage after his 16th rejection because he just couldn’t take another “no,” Sylvester Stallone who was told he would never be able to sell himself as Rocky. But because they didn’t quit – they just found another way we have the blessings of One Fish, Two Fish and many more amazing children’s books.

What is your finish line? What is that you are looking to accomplish? I read a post from a friend today. She is growing a business and she had reached out to a friend 13 times about her business and was continually told no or heard nothing at all. But just today her friend decided to take her up on the invitation that had started 2 years ago. Would you have been able to stick it out that long or would you have folded your cards and went home?
There was a time in my life that I too would have folded my cards, packed it up and quit. But not anymore. If at first I don’t succeed I have learned to try try again. Now, please hear me. That doesn’t mean that I don’t take time every now and then to wallow or get upset by a rejection I wasn’t expecting. But the important thing is that it is a short time driven by a conscious choice to allow such time. But when the allotted time – an hour, a day at most is over then it’s back at it – whatever the goal is.
If the mission/purpose in front of you is something you know in your heart is meant for you then I encourage you to keep going. Most people great underestimate how much they can accomplish in 3-5 years. What if you made a plan (invest in a coach if needed), removed any mental blocks that stood in your way and worked your plan 5-6 days a week even for an hour or two diligently taking those small action steps? Where would you be in 3-5 years? You may be super surprised what you can accomplish. And if you don’t believe you can, that’s ok for now. Borrow someone else’s belief. I’ll loan you mine for awhile until you grow your own self-belief!!
